Q: Is the Mazda Rx8 a good car?
I am lookin at a 03-05 mazda rx8 i am wondering if it is a good car!!! And am wondering about the Rotary engine??? Is it good/bad? Dependable?

A: Like any car there can be a few lemons but overall they are very good cars. The car was built as a sports car, not a red light drag racer, so handling was emphasized as opposed to raw power and acceleration. Straight line isn't too bad with 0-60 times of 5.9 seconds with the 6 speed manual, which is much more fun than the auto-box. Rotary engines are very good in the hands of KNOWLEDGEABLE owners. They are an exotic motor and as such require specific care due to their unusual nature. Flooding is always an issue with rotary engines. New fuel map programming from Mazda has helped, but once you start the motor you should let it warm up until the revs drop to normal idle (around 800 RPM) Carbon build up is a bigger issue in a rotary so daily runs to red line (9000 RPM...wheeeeeee) is recommended, as well as the occasional long highway run, both of which help burn off deposits. Regular oil changes are A MUST! Do it every 3000 miles/5000 km. Some of this oil is injected into the motor to lubricate the apex and side seals, so you want the oil to be nice and clean. Check oil levels frequently, too, since some is lost due to the injection system. Do not use synthetic oil as it's designed to prevent burn off, and a clean burn of the oil is what you want. So regular oil is recommended. Learn more about the car at: http://www.rx8club.com Before buying a used rotary engined car I would recommend having a compression and vacuum leak-down test done at a Mazda dealership. You don't know if the previous owner took care of the motor properly. The motor has an 8 year/100K mile warranty and these test will determine if the motor is still good.

Q: How many Kilowatt is a mazda RX8 at the rear wheels?

A: I've seen a Mazda RX-8, unmodified, put down 180 horsepower to the rear wheels. So converting that to kilowatts is about 134 kW to the rear wheels. To mazdatechPR: I already had that taken into account!!! The car has 180 horsepower to the wheels or about 230 horsepower at the crankshaft.

Q: Taillight on my Mazda RX8 is building-up condensation profusely. What can I do about it?

A: those are under nation wide recall through mazda. take it in and they will fix it free. i own a repair shop and i just happened to read that today.

Q: What is the gas mileage for a mazda rx8?

A: Real life driving? 12MPG-20MPG, combined city and highway, on 91 octane. Honestly it varies depending on your driving style. The MPG I get is 16-18.. and I do not drive like its the Indy 500...

Q: Does a mazda rx8 take premium or unleaded gas?

A: It takes premium. Most high performance cars require premium and while you could get by using regular and the car's computer would compensate in order to keep from damaging the engine, you need to use premium to get the specified power output and gas mileage.

Q: choice between a mazda rx8 - dodge neon SRT-4 - or Audi TT
I've been cheking out cars for the past month and i will get one this coming december. However the 3 cars I'm interested on are the Mazda Rx8 wit a 1.3L engine or a Dodge Neon SRT-4 wit a 2.4L engine and last choice is an Audi TT wit a 1.8L engine. I'm interested in all but unfortunately i can only get one LOL. i need some advice. thanks all of them are manual

A: I would narrow it to the RX8 and SRT 4. I don't like the Audi. The RX8 is a true sports car and delivers great performance and can last a long time. But you have to know how to take care of rotary engines otherwise say goodbye to it. The SRT4 is also a great performer. Some folks don't realize how quick they are. But I have seen them in action, and man they can really haul!

Q: Just bought a Mazda RX8 and wondered if sum1 could recommend best type of oil to buy for this type of car?
thanks! thanks v much for link, perfect :)

A: Ah, the age-old debate about synth vs. dino oils in the Rotary. Although I always post that synthetic oil should be avoided, like Travis S posts, certain ones are known to be Ok. Low ash content after combustion is critical to prevent build-up in the motor. Myself, I still use the recommended oil from Mazda which is their brand of 5W20 in N.America and 5W30 elsewhere. 5W20 is too thin in hot zones like the southern US states and this is likely the primary cause of the engine recalls that came out. But 5W20 is fine IF you add supplemental oiling by pre-mixing synthetic 2-cycle motor oil in your fuel. This gives the benefits of better economy of the thinner oil without loss of lubrication. The best solution, IMHO, is to disconnect the Oil Metering Pump from the engine motor oil supply and set up a separate supply of 2 cycle oil strictly for injection. This solution provides for the best oil burn-off properties for the injected oil, ensures injected oil is always clean, and allows completely safe use of synthetic oil for the rest of the motor as it's no longer being injected into the combustion chambers. Search the forums at http://www.rx8club.com for the SOHM adapter to do this. Honestly, Mazda should have built the car with the 2 oil supply system to start with, but as most enthusiasts know, most car owners look at their vehicle like an appliance...they give it no more thought than they do a toaster. Getting them to check one oil supply is tough enough...never mind checking 2 supplies that have different types of oil. Save your money and use the Mazda regular oil and just do oil changes every 3000 miles and you'll be fine.

Q: Should I purchase a Mazda RX8?
I've been thinking about purchasing this vehicle but the only downside to buying it is I've heard it can be unreliable. If I drive the car how it should be driven and don't overdo it, do you think I will still run into problems? I only want answers from people that have experience with this vehicle or know someone that has owned one. Thanks.

A: I love the cars, very pretty, I love the rotary concept, but I would never own one, for the simple reason it is a rotary motor. Reliability has come a long ways since the day of the RX7, the new ones are far superior. BUT if anything ever happens internally in those engines, like the teflon tips wear off the rotors, you need a new motor. Or if the fuel ever detonates, detonation is HELL on those motors, destroys them in a hurry. After all this, if you ever do hurt the motor in the car, they're near impossible to find as only the RX8's had them, so now you may actually have to buy a brand new motor straight from the dealer $$$$.

Q: How do you get the air filter out of a Mazda RX8?

Q: HARD STARTING 2004 MAZDA RX8?
I have a 2004 Mazda RX8 with hard starting problem. It has 56,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed the engine failed the compression test. However they refuse to change the engine since i can not supply service records for 20,000 miles.( i bought it second hand). Has anybody encountered a similar problem, what should i do?

A: This is why it's important that you get the service records when buying a used car. If they can't supply the records at least get the dealers name who did the servicing and go to them. All the information now days is stored on service computers.

Q: Muffler for an 07 mazda rx8?
I have a 07 mazda rx8 and I want to put either quick flow, or flomaster muffler on my car to make it sound good. I want more of a rumbling sound than a rattling sound of a honda. What do you think.

A: Your best bet is to go with a cat-back exhaust. I have the Greddy SP2 on my 8. Join our forum for comparisons from multiple owners. They will help you get the most out of your car. http://www.rx8club.com/

Q: What is the right oil to used on a mazda rx8?

A: Mazda North America recommends standard (i.e. not synthetic) 5W20, but that was giving in to pressure from the EPA. 5W30 is better for hot temperature zones and is the specified oil every where else in the world. Regular oil is best. For the most part stay away from synthetic oils for rotary engines. Since oil is injected into the combustion chambers you want oil that will burn off as cleanly as possible. Most synthetics are designed to prevent easy burn-off and will leave more deposits in the motor.
