Q: I have a 2008 mazda 3 and i want to lower it about 1.5 inches. I was thinking tein springs. Is this a bad idea?
A: Adam,
I have a lowered Mazda3, Tein is good but they are not the only game in town. Read about the differences on lowered springs, resist the temptation to purchase because the name that continues to bubble up is ________. As for lowering your car, it is best to have the benefit of rhyme and reason. The standard advice is to never go lower than 1.5 inches, however, 1 inch might be just fine. For instance, I roll with 18" wheels and tires, if I drop the car 1.5" then the tires will rub. If I lower it by 1 inch the wheel well is full, no rubbing and I have the best of both worlds. In my personal opinion their are two good reasons that benefit lowering a car. The first is the obvious, looks. The second is driving style. If you are often rushed when you drive, the efficiency of changing lanes, laying into curves approaching the on ramp, switching from left to right to avoid hitting a pot hole are the types of driver benefits one can expect by lowering the springs.
A firmer suspension makes a statistically faster car, it is for this reason, people who race will always have their car in a crouched position. The way this translates in the real world is that when someone is following you on a stretch of highway, if you bob and weave through traffic they will have a tough time keeping pace. Why? Because their is less wasted motion, a lack of leaning into the corners, instead you will carve corners. The net effect is that you will have a zippy car. So, mate do your homework, take into consideration the wheel and tire combination you will be running and enjoy the rough ride. Cheers.
Q: Are Mazda3 2008.5 models available in the USA?
Mazda announced changes for 2008.5 Mazda3:
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/080219/latu143.html?.v=29). and
http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=27601
Are these available yet at USA dealers? Does anyone know when they will be? I'm looking for a Grand Touring with the automated front seat.
Hi, to the answerer who said that 4 are in... can you please confirm that the 5-door mazda3 does have power front driver's seat?
A: They will be at the US dealerships within the next month.
Q: 2008 Mazda3 s Touring 5-Door?
I am considering buying a new, 2008 Mazda 3 s Touring hatchback in grey this weekend. A local dealership is offering the car for 19,200 (not including tax and title) with all of the standard features plus the 6 CD/moonroof package. According to Edmunds, here's the price on this car: MSRP = 20,900; Invoice = 19,532; TMV = 20,047. Due to current economic times, is this the best that I can do? (By the way, I am in Ohio)
A: Under invoice for that car is a great deal.
We have a 2007 i-touring sedan that we got for invoice and a 2008 Mazdaspeed hatchback that we got for $250 over invoice.
You will not be disappointed.
Q: Where can I rent a Mazda Miata MX-5 in MA or RI?
May 2008
A: Well, unless you can locate i specialized car rental place, you can't rent a miata, chances are that even at a place that rents off shoot cars won't have a miata. Most rental companies (hertz, budget ect.....) they have contracts with the major car companies so that they can get good prices when purchasing a large quantity of cars and trucks. Even the small fry comapnies still seem to rent out ford, chevy or dodge specifically, because they can get good prices on fleet purchases. Sometimes however, and this is rare, but a dealership will rent out the cars that they use as loaners. Even still your chances of getting a miata are very slim.
If i were you i would go to miata.net, and within the forum section look up the area you want to rent the car in (the forum has a regional section) and post your question there. Most people on the forum are nice and will be more than willing to help you out!!!
Good Luck
Q: Safety--2008 Honda Civic vs. Mazda 3 ?
I like both the Civic and Mazda3--both are stylish (although different character), reliable, and a great value for the money for small cars. The Civic has stellar front, side, and rear crash test results from IIHS, but all versions except the Si lack electronic stability control, a feature found to be highly valuable in accident avoidance. The Mazda 3 S Touring has stability control, but it's crash tests are so-so---the Mazda 3 lacking side airbags got a Poor rating from IIHS, and Mazda never gave the IIHS a 3 w/ side air bags to test, so it's hard to tell how much better it would perform, maybe it would be "Acceptable." The Mazda3 didn't fair great in the NHTSA's crash tests either, w/ 4 and 3 stars for front, and side, respectively, compared w/ mostly 5 for Civic, but IIHS's tests are generally more rigorous anyways. A non-Si Civic w/ electronic stability control would make the choice so much more obvious, but being that that isn't the case...Civic EX or Mazda3 S Touring?
A: Both are pretty much the same i.e. near the top of the class in safety terms. I'd guess that the civic is safer though as it's a newer model. Check out the toughest car crash tests in the world at the sources below. This is the European standard for crash safety testing and is carried out under much tougher conditions than any in the USA i.e. higher impact speed, pedestrian safety etc.
Q: 17...first car...jetta, bmw, or mazda eh?
1.) Jetta is 2005-2008, still under warranty $15,000-$19,000 under 25k miles
2.) Mazda 3,5, or 6. 2004-2008. still under warranty $8,000-$15000 under 25k miles
3.) Bmw 330 2003 with 48000 and no warranty :( but my fave car ever!!!!! $12,000-18000
1.) Which is cheapest or best on maintenance?
2.) What if i get extended warranty for bmw? I wont have to pay as much for parts....right??
3.) Which car is best in the long run?
Gas is not biggest concern because they are all pretty close. And my insurance is not over $150 on all 3!!! yay!!!
*Basically, I'm goin to college in the summer and leavin the fam and want a reliable car! So what is best HELP ME OUT!!! I GET CAR IN FEW DAYS!!!!!!!!!!
A: The Mazda's are your best bet. VW's are crap anymore, they haven't made a quality vehicle in 2 decades, if you don't believe me, take a look over in the VW forums... terrible cars. The BMW is nice, but could be hit or miss on reliability, and it already has 48k miles and is 5 years old.... sounds like a lot for a vehicle that could cost a LOT in repairs.
The Mazda's are all pretty decent, relatively cheap on insurance.
Q: Bait & Switch at Mazda dealer?
I asked for an internet price quote on a Mazda sTouring Hatchback(5door) manual 2008. After several back and forths, I gat a call from the salesperson who discussed getting me the car for $17.8 incl dest chg. When I got to the dealership they showed me a 2008 Mazda sTouring sedan automatic! When I explained they made a mistake they offered to sell me the 5 door for $2k more. They showed me the internet notes - which included the sedan model #. I had never been givin the model # AND also did not bring the email exchanges with me. I ended up leaving without a car. Anyone else run up against this?
A: It depends on where you requested the Internet quote. If you went to a third party, such a Edmunds.com, blackbook.com, or anything other than the dealerships website, then it's very possible the dealership's emailed information was not vehicle specific. Even if you are asked this information prior to asking for a quote
Q: Mazda 3 or Corolla 2008?
My parents are searching for a new car. They need a car that saves money on gas and that is reliable because my father has all the car's mechanics in a 40 miles radious as his enemies. But my mother probably would want a quiet and safe car, and my dad, might want a good grid and accelaration. They live in a small town with norrow roads, that go up and down the hills, and a lots a curves. But they commute to the city each day, so they also experience the highway and tons of traffic jams.
Which car you think it would be better for them.
I used to own a 1990 Corolla, which is the car that my mom is driving now, and she refuses to give it up, because she likes how smooth is to drive it (yeah it still drives like a brand new car, and we had never fix the engine or transmition, or anything big besides some hose, breaking pads, chains here and there. It even stopped counting the millage 5 years ago, it stopped at 197K).
They had norrow down their options to mazda3 and corolla because of the price, specefically. I hope someone knows which car can be the perfect match for my parents.
A: the corolla would make them another good car to own,i doubt that they would actually be able to wear that car out,the newer corollas are very good cars to own,i too have considered buying one, their tough cars and do hold up really well, and very easy to maintain ,corollas is good for three reasons ,price, reliability and dependability, good luck.
Q: swapping mazda3 engine?
Hi,
So i am just wondering (not going to put into action for another year most likely) about swapping my engine for a more powerful one.
I have a 2008.5 4dr mazda 3 ... i like it but i am eventually going to mod it (alot).
it would be great if anyone could fill me in on how engine swaps work (4cylinder for 6, etc)
As well, any other upgrades that may be cheaper (turbo, super, intake, exhaust system) anything that could enhance my engine and car efficiency.
If some of you know the general cost of those things could you please include.
Thanks for the help and advice (in advance)!!
my mazda has standard trans.
for a mazda3/sp3 swap what should i be looking at in terms of $$?
A: Sir,
You raise a complex question that has a complicated answer. The e-mail address below will provide examples and specifics of engine swaps and all of the related mechanics to be taken under advisement. You will be pleased.

I am assuming money is not an issue or will not be one. Whenever you make big changes to a car, their are trade offs with reliability. Their is an old saying that speed costs money. This is true, because all internal parts must be upgraded in order to be within spec for expected reliability. When you mentioned a 6 cylinder, the first engine that came to mind was the Volkswagen VR6. A small compact and lightweight 6 cylinder that would fit comfortably in the Mazda engine bay and leave room for additional performance parts. I just don't know how all of the stuff would be hooked in, it may not be feasible. If you drop a larger engine a turbo charger would need a oil cooler to be safe, you would certainly need to reinforce the transmission and take a good look at the gearing. In essence you would be rebuilding the car.
If you chose to stay with the 4 cylinder and add a supercharger this will enhance low to mid range torque. Add a cold air intake, the engine will run cooler, a catback exhaust will balance out a freer exhaust and the right amount of back pressure. Drop the car about 1 to 1.5 inches put on a lightweight set of rims to reduce rolling resistance get 18" tires and you will have a screamer. I don't know for sure, but the Mazda 3 is not suited for a 6 cylinder engine because of the weight then the size. The whole equation changes when you add a bigger engine. Nevertheless, I wish you the best. The experts are on howstuff works and they have articles and contacts that can answer any and everything you could possibly dream of. Cheers.
Q: Which car is better for a family of 5?
Is the new 2008 dodge caravan (http://www.dodge.com/en/08caravan/index.html ) or the 2007 Mazda cx9 (http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=modelsMain&vehicleCode=CX9) a better family car? We have always had a minivan but, i'm not sure if we are ready for something else . we go up to our family cabin alot and we bring our dog. Everything doesn't fit in my husband's 5 seater jeep.
A: I would have to say the Caravan because it gets good gas mileage, reliable, spacious, and has that really cool fold up table inside of it where you can also make the seats face each other. It is safer than the Mazda, has two TV/DVD screens, can come with a navigation system, and has those cool halo lights for when it is night and your kids are wiped out and want a nice relaxing enviroment to fall asleep or chill out. Since you are not sure you're ready for something else, then go with this. It literally is the perfect family car. What else are you expecting that's already in this baby?

A: Truthfully, if you have a bit of extra money to spend, go with the Axis SE7EN MOD or the Axis MATRIX . Or maybe the Konig Hotswaps, or just maybe G-games Sidewinder 2-piece. Go either 18" or 19". Now remember, if you have the stock Lancer, it comes with 17" rims. the GTS comes with 18". Now be careful when choosing the wheel size cause if you go to big, IE 22", you would have many issues dealing from calibration of the speedometer to clearance issues.
Q: 1999 Mazda 626 LX, good deal, pls hlp?
I recently purchased a 1999 mazda 626 LX for $ 1500, engine is losing compression. Other then the engine the car is immaculate inside and out. Fully loaded and licensed till 2008. I found a reputable company that will overhaul the engine with a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty for $1200. Was this a smart buy?
A: is a good buy if you will own your car for many yrs
once you swap your engine with a new one that engine will give 100.000 miles with no problem
so again it is a good choise if you will kept your car until the engine goes out again
Q: The best SUV for my buck.?
I'm a first time SUV buyer and looking into the 2008 Mazda Tribute or Ford Escape (yes, I realize these are basically the same vehicle), but I'm finding a lot of mixed responses on reliability. Are these good vehicles? Reliable? Is there anything in the same price range that would be a better choice?
I need something that's going to last me 5-10 years. How realistic is this? What about Hyundai or Kia's SUV's? Are these better than Ford or Mazda. I would GREATLY appreciate any information on this!
A: the jeep patriot
its cheap, and has good quality
Q: Who would win in a race?
My uncle was arguing that he would be able to beat me in a race
I have a 2007 VW Rabbit with 150HP and 170LB TQ and my uncle recent bought a 2008 Mazda 3 GT that has 156HP with 150LB TQ.
My car is a 5 speed manual with a 2.5L V5(yes 5 cyl) engine with 20 valves where the Mazda 3 gas a 2.3L V4 engine with 16 valves.
I told him even if he has 6 extra HP I would still toast him because I have more TQ and my car is German engineered.
What do you guys think who would win?
All stock. Nothing is after market
A: Dude It realy isent the car its the driver. I raced my friend with my vw jetta 4 banger and he had a ford probe with a v6 and a cold air intake and a exast job. the vw won.
